Privacy Policy

Askee is a Chrome extension that lets you chat on and with any website, YouTube video, or document, with answers that link back to the source. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about what data we handle and why. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

We collect only what we need to provide the service:

• Account information. If you create an account, we store your email address, an optional display name, and the authentication details needed to keep you signed in. You can sign in with a one-time email code or with Google.
• Page content you choose to chat with. When you ask a question about a web page, YouTube video, or document, the relevant content is sent to our servers and AI providers to generate an answer. Depending on what you ask about, this can include the page’s URL, title, and text (including web apps like Gmail, Jira, Notion, and Google Docs/Sheets when you invoke Askee on them), any text you highlight, the title and URL of an open tab you add from the source picker, the transcript of a YouTube video, and files you upload (PDF, DOCX, CSV, JSON). We only read a page when you actively invoke Askee on it — we do not read or collect your browsing activity in the background.
• Conversations. Your questions and the answers generated are stored so you can revisit your chat history.
• Usage and diagnostic data. We collect product analytics (such as when the panel is opened, a message is sent, or an upgrade is clicked) and error reports to understand how the product is used and to fix problems. Before you sign in these events are tied to a random device identifier; once you sign in they are associated with your account, including your email. We do not capture keystrokes, mouse movement, or the content of the pages you visit through analytics.
• Payment information. If you subscribe to a paid plan, payments are processed by our third-party payment provider. We do not store your full card details.

• To provide, maintain, and improve the service.
• To generate answers to your questions, linked back to the source, using AI models.
• To manage your account, subscription, and billing.
• To diagnose issues, prevent abuse, and ensure the security of the service.
• To communicate with you about your account or important service updates.

To generate answers, the relevant content and your questions are sent to third-party AI model providers (including Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google), routed through the Vercel AI Gateway. These providers process the data solely to return a response and do not use it to train their models on your behalf.

We also rely on a small number of trusted sub-processors to operate the service, each bound by its own privacy and security obligations and permitted to use your data only to provide their service to us:

• Supabase — authentication and database hosting (account details and conversations).
• Railway — application and server hosting.
• Vercel AI Gateway — routing requests to the AI model providers named above.
• PostHog — product analytics and error reporting (hosted in the EU).
• Stripe — payment processing for paid plans. We never receive or store your full card details.

The extension requests only the permissions needed for its single purpose — letting you chat with the content you are viewing:

• Side panel displays Askee’s chat interface next to the page you are reading.
• Active tab and scripting let Askee read the content of the page you ask about, only when you invoke it.
• Tabs lets Askee read the current tab’s URL and title, list your other open tabs in the “add source” picker, and open the sign-in page during Google login.
• Storage keeps your sign-in session and widget preferences on your device.
• Host access to all sites is required because you can ask about any page you choose; Askee reads a site only when you actively invoke it there.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use or transfer it for purposes unrelated to Askee or to determine creditworthiness or for lending. We share data only with the service providers described above, when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the service.

We retain your account information and conversations for as long as your account is active. You can delete your conversations or request deletion of your account at any time, after which we permanently remove the associated data from our systems within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law. The page content you ask about is processed to generate an answer and is not retained by our AI providers beyond their short-term operational logs.

• Access, update, or delete your account information.
• Delete your conversation history.
• Request a copy of your data or ask us to delete it entirely.
• Opt out of non-essential communications.

We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your data in transit and at rest. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work continuously to protect your information.

Askee is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, provide a more prominent notice.
